Portillo's, the legendary restaurant from the Chicago area famous for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, chocolate cake, and shakes, is set to launch a new venue in the suburbs. However, this location will offer a unique twist compared to the traditional Portillo's dine-in experience.

A new restaurant is set to open its doors to the public at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, at 20 Orland Square Drive in Orland Square, as announced in a press release. Officials have stated that this location will operate on a "pick-up only" basis, making it the third establishment of this type in Illinois.

"The recent announcement stated that the new Portillo’s Pick Up location in Orland Park differs from conventional restaurants as it lacks an indoor dining space. Instead, this compact establishment showcases the innovative Restaurant of the Future design, which includes two drive-thru lanes and a designated inside pick-up area for orders made via portillos.com, the Portillo’s app, or through third-party delivery services."

Although the new restaurant occupies a more compact space, patrons can still look forward to enjoying a complete selection of Portillo's classics, including Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and their famous chocolate cake, according to the announcement.

The Orland Park locations joins two other suburban Chicago pick-up only locations in Rosemont and Joliet, the release said. Overall, the franchise has more than 90 restaurants across 10 states.

In 2023, Portillo's announced it would only accept cashless payments in drive-thru lanes. It wasn't immediately clear if the new Portillo's Pick Up in Orland Park would take cash, and a spokesperson did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago's request for comment.
