While it very much seems like brands are retreating to their plastic bubbles and scaling back on their sustainability goals here in the United States (Hi, Coca-Cola!), it might be a different story overseas in Europe. Sure, they can’t beat us regarding B-action movies, but they have our number concerning single-use plastics.
For example, Nestle France has recently begun testing a reusable stainless steel container for KitKat Balls and Lion Pops—something I wasn’t even aware existed, highlighting my own knowledge gap. This initiative, in collaboration with Le Fourgnon, Circolution, and BocoLoco, will run for six months in France, aiming to reduce the reliance on single-use plastics in the confectionery industry.
Shoppers only need to pay a €2.00 deposit (plus the cost of their treats), enjoy their sweets from the Circolution steel containers, and then Le Fourgnon will pick up the containers for cleaning and reuse in the future.
