A woman in her early 70s in the United Kingdom was admitted to the hospital due to severe heatstroke after an extended sauna session. According to a report by Live Science on Thursday, January 9, the woman had been in the sauna for approximately 45 minutes before she unexpectedly lost consciousness.
According to the report, paramedics quickly reached the location and observed that the woman's core body temperature had surged to 107.6 degrees Fahrenheit, roughly nine degrees Fahrenheit above the typical range.
The woman's blood pressure had decreased, while her heart rate had increased.
A woman has been diagnosed with a serious case of exertional heat stroke.
Following her hospitalization, the woman was found to have a critical case of exertional heat stroke, a serious condition that can lead to multi-organ failure and fatality if not promptly recognized and addressed.
According to the report, the woman faced multiple health complications, such as a seizure, heart attack, liver and kidney damage, as well as problems with blood clotting.
Following an hour of being hospitalized, the woman's body temperature returned to normal, and two hours later, she became conscious again.
She completely recovered without requiring any advanced organ support and was released from the hospital after a stay of 12 days.
An unusual occurrence
This case involving a UK woman is unusual, as fewer than 10 individuals globally have reported suffering from heat stroke after using a sauna.
The woman was characterized as "physically active" and was noted for not smoking or consuming alcohol "in large amounts."
It is probable that the woman experienced dehydration while in the sauna, as she mentioned that she hadn't drunk enough water prior to the incident.
