Patients of Mohawk Valley Cardiology in Utica need to be informed about a data security breach that could have affected the personal health information of approximately 4,945 individuals, as indicated in a statement released by the practice's legal representatives, The Beckage Firm.
According to the statement, the practice has no knowledge of any information being misused or whether anyone was truly impacted by the breach. However, it took immediate action by initiating an investigation upon discovering the breach, reaching out to law enforcement, enlisting an incident response team along with data security experts, and preventing any further unauthorized access.
The potentially compromised information includes individuals' first and last names, addresses, health insurance and billing information, as well as health-related data.
Letters have been mailed to all individuals who might have been impacted.
Patients of the practice are encouraged to examine their account statements and keep an eye on their credit reports for any unusual activity.
