COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)
According to an email from a spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Mental Health, a patient at Fulton State Hospital was involved in a fight with another patient on Monday.
The identities of the patients remain undisclosed. According to Debra Walker, a spokesperson for DMH, the Fulton police are currently conducting an investigation.
“On Monday, January 6, an incident occurred between two patients at Fulton State Hospital. One patient was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, from which he later died. The Fulton Police Department is investigating the incident,” a statement reads. “The Department of Mental Health and Fulton State Hospital leadership are deeply saddened by the incident. Grief and trauma support are being offered to the deceased patient’s family as well as to other patients and Fulton State Hospital staff members. “
